Teachers and non-profit staff receive free school supplies

VISTA, Calif. – Around 240 teachers and non-profit staff received free school supplies in Vista on Thursday.

The Bring-Your-Own-Box event sponsored by ‘Sustainable Surplus’ offers free binders, dividers, lab equipment and other supplies at no charge.

“Events like this really free up my own personal budget, because we’re spending our own money all the time for little things the kids need,” says 5th grade teacher Crystal Britton.

Companies donate office supplies they don’t use anymore to ‘Sustainable Surplus.’

“We’re a great channel for them to find a new home for their things,” says Sue Prelozni, CEO of Sustainable Surplus.

The Bring-Your-Own-Box event is held about 4 to 6 times a year. The non-profit is working on expanding, so more teachers and non-profit leaders can take advantage of the program.

“We would ideally like to have locations in different places in the county because as you know, today people came from as far away as Tecate,” adds Prelozni,

Sustainable Surplus will hold another event in October.
